Splenda has a higher glycemic index than sugar!

Yes, you read that headline right. Splenda has a higher glycemic index than table sugar does! I was floored when I found this out.

Table sugar has a glycemic index of 65, while Splenda has a glycemic index of 80! That’s because not only does Splenda contain Sucralose (who’s GI is technically 0), but it also includes dextrose and maltodextrin.

Dextrose has a glycemic index of 100, while maltodextrin has a glycemic index of 110.

All these are aside from the fact that sucralose is an artificial sweetener, and has a number of possible health effects that makes many people want to avoid it.

What originally alerted me to this fact was this post on Pinterest.

For a comparison of different types of sweeteners have a look here.
